Last year I finally launched my online coaching services, which you can read more about here. It was a natural step from teaching fitness classes and having my Level 3 Personal Training qualification, after I attempted working in a gym at the same time as attending a full time dance degree (as in dancing for 6+ hours a day, not just attending a lecture / seminar a few times a week) and that didn’t work out for me. Being a Personal Trainer for a specific gym is a full time job, and it is incredibly difficult to fully commit to at the same time as having other commitments and priorities (my education).
So, I’ve been doing online coaching for a few months now, I properly launched it in the first lockdown because obviously PT sessions and fitness classes couldn’t happen in person, and no one was going to the gym anyway, so it was the perfect opportunity.
HOW ONLINE COACHING WORKS
If you don’t know how online coaching works, every coach will work slightly differently, but the way I work is that you ‘sign up’ for 4 weeks at a time, so there’s no obligation to commit to any longer than that if you don’t want to. After you’ve filled out the enquiry form, there will be a consultation call (free of charge) so that we can get to know each other and talk about your goals and what you want to achieve in a bit more detail. Then if you want to proceed, I’ll set you up with a training programme personalised to you (this can be for the gym or home workouts) and a nutrition plan that will help you to reach your goals, whatever they might be. You will then have a weekly check in on the same day each week, where we can discuss how you’re getting on and make any necessary changes to your plan. You will also have access to my support and guidance via WhatsApp, so I’ll always be there at the end of a message to help you out! Whether that be to check you’re doing an exercise right, help you navigate your meal plan or give you snack/meal ideas, or to help work through your anxiety around going to the gym on your own, whatever it might be!
BENEFITS OF HAVING A COACH
TAKE OUT THE GUESS WORK
Maybe you’ve been trying to lose weight or reach a new PB in the gym for a while and it’s just not happening? A coach can be there to help you reach your specific goals and work everything out for you so you don’t have to think about it! You will be handed everything you need to reach those goals, and all you have to do is follow the plan and everything else should fall into place.
STAY ACCOUNTABLE
Maybe you’ve had the same new years resolutions for the last five years and never stuck to them past the first week in January? A coach is there to remind you of your goals and give you the tools you need to accomplish them. This is probably the main benefit of working with a coach vs purchasing a workout plan or app to follow on your own – your coach is going to be there at the end of the week and ask what you’ve done to make progress towards your goals, and help you to overcome your barriers.
KNOW YOU’RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK
A coach is also there to encourage you, ensure you are putting in the energy and effort to reaching your goals and supporting you throughout the journey. You’re in it together, so if something’s not working your coach can help you to understand why. Honesty is absolutely key here though – if you want to know why you’re not losing weight but the truth is you’ve had a chocolate bar every single day for the last week and not included it in your meal plan / set calories, I think you know what the answer is. (That’s not to say that having a coach means you can’t have sweet treats, I’m a huge believer of that!)
GAIN CONFIDENCE
You might just need that extra support from someone telling you you’re doing the right thing. Or maybe reaching the goals you’ve been trying to do on your own for so long will give you that boost. Also, if you’re new to a gym environment or working out in general, a coach can also help with form and technique to give you the confidence that you’re not going to do more harm than good!
The most important thing to remember is that a coach’s job is to give you the knowledge and tools to go out and get what you want, whatever that may be. You put in the time and effort, and we’re here to help you out along the way.
