January Wrap Up (Books)

Firstly, apologies for the radio silence on here, I took a much needed break from the blogging world but am now back in full force!

If you saw my last post, you’ll know that I’ve been getting massively into reading again over the past year, a hobby that I loved as a child and in my early teens, but then life got in the way and ‘real life’ took over, leaving a lot of unread books on the shelf and a never-ending TBR list! But lockdown last year gave me the chance to start reading again and I’m honestly so glad it did.

I’m now making reading a daily habit (or trying to at least) and am enjoying it so much, hence the new book content! If you didn’t know, I also started a YouTube channel last year (if you’re not already, go and subscribe here) and have decided to do a monthly “BookTube” video over there, the first of which went up this week.

I thought I’d bring the book content over to my blog as well, and hoping to do two separate posts a month, a wrap up and a TBR.

So onto what you’re probably here for… all the books I read in January!

Paper Towns – John Green

4 stars

This was a nice quick read, one that I actually started in December but finished in January. I love John Green and the characters he creates, I love that they’re kind of complex and the stories always have a bit of a ‘deeper’ meaning. I love a bit of YA fiction!

You Are A Badass – Jen Sincero

5 stars

I actually listened to this on audiobook a couple of years ago but decided to re-read it after my flatmate bought a copy and was raving about it. It definitely resonated more this time around and I want to get my own copy of this one so I can highlight things and keep coming back to it.

Eve Of Man – Giovanna & Tom Fletcher

5 stars

I got this book as a Christmas present and absolutely loved it. I’ve been describing it as a mix between The Hunger Games, Divergent and The Handmaid’s Tale, but it’s not predictable. I love that there’s different character’s POV and the plot twists are not what you’d expect.

The Eve Illusion – Giovanna & Tom Fletcher

5 stars

As I was nearing the end of the first book I ordered this one which is the second in the trilogy, the third of which hasn’t been released yet and I’m quite upset about it! It took a little while longer to get into it for me, but by half way through I was gripped, there’s a lot more action in this one.

The Goddess Revolution – Mel Wells

5 stars

I’ve enjoyed alternating between fiction and non fiction, and this was another book I borrowed from my flatmate. It’s a self help style book focusing on mindset around food, dieting, body image and confidence so perfect if you’ve struggled with any of those things in the past, or are going through something like disordered eating, I highly recommend. There’s lots of tasks throughout that make you think and assess the way you approach situations which I found really useful. Another one I need to get my own copy of!

Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and what you thought of them!

Keep an eye out for my February TBR post coming soon 🙂

I’m impressed with myself for hitting 5 books in January, at the same time as doing my dance training on Zoom throughout the day. I’ve set my Goodreads Challenge goal to 30 books for 2021 so here’s hoping I can keep this going!
