I originally called this ‘My Lockdown Achievements’ but I’m not sure whether the things I wanted to include could count as achievements or just highlights. Also, I didn’t want it to be a brag in any way, just to spread some positivity and bring light to things that I’m proud of or have been enjoying whilst being stuck at home for the last 3 months.
I can’t actually believe how long ago lockdown started (23rd March in the UK) and there have definitely been ups and downs, so I don’t want anyone to read this post and just think I’ve had a grand time floating along and getting on with things being productive 24/7 (which is the impression I think I sometimes give out on social media but couldn’t really be further from the truth). I did also summarise what it’s been like as a dance student in lockdown, and you can read that post here.
Anyway, onto this post! I know that some of my readers will have similar achievements/highlights to me so if that’s you, comment below or drop me a message and tell me how you’ve been doing! As you’ll see these things aren’t in any particular order, just things that came to me that I’m proud to have been part of or completed since March.
Back at the beginning of lockdown it felt like everyone was starting to run more as an alternative to going to the gym, and of course there was the Run 5k, Donate £5 and Tag 5 friends for the NHS, which I got tagged in multiple times before I eventually completed the challenge, and that was actually the first run I did where I felt like I had the ‘running bug’. I wrote a whole post compiling my running tips. While I’ve not been terribly consistent, I’ve tried to get out for at least one run a week, treated myself to some proper running trainers and even use Strava to track my distance and pace!
If you haven’t already, check out my skincare routine. The products I’m using have actually changed up a little bit since I wrote that post, the main ones being I now have the Body Shop Tea Tree Face Wash and Oil Treatment. Lockdown seems to have really had an impact on my skin and acne has been back in full force since I moved home which isn’t fun, but I have finally committed to a real skincare routine which I can’t sleep until I’ve completed at night and it’s one of the first things I complete in the morning. I’m also now an ambassador for Pretty Athletic, and you can use my discount code LAUREN to save some pennies! I use their products daily and absolutely love them.
I used to read so much as a child, I am SO happy that I’ve managed to pick up the habit again. I’ve read 9 books since the start of lockdown, which is more than I’ve read probably in the last 5 years put together. I’ve gotten into the habit of reading for at least 20 minutes before bed, and also reading while I have my breakfast/morning coffee and I love it. I also joined a book club, which you can find out more about here.
As I mentioned a few posts ago (20 Daily Affirmations) I’ve gotten into meditation. I started doing meditations live on IG on @heelsandfeels (now has a separate wellness page @healsandfeels) and am currently doing @yogawithgeorgia 30 Days of Bliss. It’s a habit I’m still trying to make more regular, but have definitely noticed a difference in my mindset and mentality in general since starting to meditate more, and highly recommend incorporating it into your life if you don’t already.
LAUNCHING MY OWN CLASSES
This is probably the most exciting! I taught Aerobics on Facebook Live in a group for charity for about 6 weeks starting in March, and then transitioned into doing some on my IG page, but eventually got fed up with Insta chucking me off for copyright etc and general livestreaming issues so have moved my classes onto Zoom and hope to get some more people in before the end of summer! I teach a range of classes to keep it interesting including HIIT, Abs Blast, Pilates, Body Conditioning and Barre. I’m also offering 1:1 and small group PT sessions, find out more about all of that here. I also did a one off 4 week challenge, and created my own home fitness guide, both of which are available from my shop.
FINISHED 1ST YEAR
I also finished the first year of my degree! Starting a new course at the age of 21 when all my friends had already graduated this time last year was pretty nerve wracking but I’m so glad I had the guts to do it because I’m so happy where I am now and cannot wait for what the future holds!
WENT SELF HOSTED
I decided to use some of the free time I had from not being at college to make my blog self hosted and really focus on producing content and building up my audience. I have absolutely no regrets so far and have really enjoyed the process, even if it was again slightly nerve wracking to take that plunge at first. It feels much more professional and feels like an extension of my fitness brand and Instagram page.
As well as doing all my dance coursework (yes, dancers still have to write essays and presentations), I’ve also completed a Nutrition course, TRX Training, Trigger Point Pilates: Desk Workouts, a Glute Activation and Back Workshop, and if all that wasn’t enough, I’ve just enrolled to start my Level 3 Pre/Post Natal Exercise and Nutrition course. I like to keep busy!
Shreddy couldn’t not have a mention! It kept me sane and kept me moving as I completed the third Shreddy Challenge a few weeks ago, one of the only constant things I had during this crazy few months. If you’re not sure what Shreddy is, I did a whole post about my experience of it which you can view here.
I hope you enjoyed reading some of my lockdown/quarantine highlights from the last few months, and would like to ask you to take a minute to think about what some of yours are, and if you like, comment them below – I’d love to hear!
